Smart Creations has the factory capacity to take in over 5+ large volume projects simultaneously, processing over 3.5 tonnes of copper sheets. The core team is highly efficient and are assisted by skilled trainees. They are capable of turning out the project in the least possible time period.

    2. What is the potential turnaround time for each project?

The time period for each project depends on the total area to be coated and the thickness of the gold deposition. Thinner layers are plated more quickly but the Smart Creations factory is capable of executing even higher consumption projects over 30 gms of gold per square feet.

    3. What is the guaranty on Smart Creations Project?

On an average the gold plating on any structure like kalasam, vimanam, dhwajasthambam etc. which are exposed directly to the environment in temple projects, are given a guaranty of 8 to 60 years, depending on amount of gold deposited. This is for typical Chennai Climate and may vary for each city. The surface preparation is an important factor to be considered while presenting the guaranty. Smart Creations’s specialised NTGD technology combined with a surface prepared to be of non-porous conditions ensures a durable end product. Each project is accompanied by its own certification of Gold deposition and Guaranty on handing over.

    4. What is the minimum size of order that can be taken at Smart Creations?

The very first small scale order received by Smart Creations was a small Ganesha idol from the private collection of a customer. We take in any scale of projects and there is no minimum size to the product. However planning the material supply and ensuring minimum variable costs is viable only from surface areas of 40 square feet onwards.

    5. How is 95% of Gold recovery possible?

Every milligram of Gold used in the projects counts. Gold plating of the templeshas a partial reason that the gold can later be used for the betterment of society when need arises. Thus Smart Creations ensures that the gold can be recovered and is usable further. This is possible by a specialised Nickel Alloy plating on the copper sheets, before gold deposition. This makes the surface absolutely non-porous preventing copper from migrating into gold. In addition to the Gold provided by the customer, Smart Creations does an initial layer of Gold on our part. An electrophoretic lacquer coating is done on top of the Gold plating. Thus the Gold is safely sandwiched between two other layers that protect it. This gold layer can then be recovered at need.

    6. What are the finishes available with Smart Creations?

In the case of Temple projects Smart Creations does 24 Kt Gold plating from 1 gm to 30 gm per sft in both Glossy and Matt finishes. Exotic antique shades and smooth satin finishes are some of the specialty customisations available with us.

    7. What is the protective coating used to prevent environmental damage?

In temple projects, the structures that come for coating have deep divine significance. Some of them like the Kalasam will not be touched till the next KumbhaAbhishekam. It has to retain its sheen without the need for cleaning them. To mitigate any kind of environmental damage or minor scratches during transit or handling, Smart Creations uses an Electrophoretic lacquer that is deposited after Gold deposition. This is also baked in an oven and air dried creating a non permeable hard layer that can help the structure weather any environmental conditions.

    8. What kind of industrial products can be coated by Smart Creations?

Apart from Golden temple projects and small scale retail orders, Smart Creations also deals with industrial coatings. Most of the customers in this area of our expertise come from electronics industry, electricals industry, space industry, railways etc. Currently research is going on to introduce 14 Kt Gold plating for sensitive components. Lately the furniture industry which has picked up on metal accents has approached us for their projects and production.

    9. Which surfaces can be plated with gold?

Gold can be deposited on any kindof metal surface like brass, copper, aluminium etc. Proprietary chemicals allow us to deposit Gold even on Stainless steel. We also plate on zinc die casting for select customers. Since we employ electroplating method, currently it is not possible to coat non-conductive surfaces , but there is research being conducted to include them as well.

    10. What is the recommended thickness of Gold plating?

When it comes to home décor products, thickness varies from 0.3 microns to 2 microns depending on usage. Industrial products are coated in varying thicknesses from 1 micron to 10 microns, depending on their application.

    11. What are the location restrictions for Gold plating?

Gold plating especially in NTGD technology that employs Electroplating requires a controlled environment with stringent work processes. Our factory floor has a three tier system check in place. Over the past two years we have even set up temporary plants in Client locations where the structures could not be removed and sent to us. In each case the facility costs and the space requirements were borne by the customers themselves.

    12. What is the potential shipping and packing costs involved?

In the case of Golden temple projects, most of the materials are in sheet form and require proper packaging to ensure safety on transit and handling at receiving end. Retail products are shipped all around the world and are moved by various methods through land, water and air. Depending on the weight of the item in question, the distance and the method of transport the rates will vary. We have a strong logistics partner who ensures that we transport your purchases at the most reasonable rates and with safety.

    13. Can Smart creations work on site?

Smart Creations is capable of and has done work in situ, provided the project calls for such a necessity. This is entertained only if the project size is sufficiently big enough to justify the erection of a temporary facility at the premises of the client. The project size need be at least 1500 sft for us to consider the extra facility work.Since this process is really expensive, it is left to the client’s discretion to take a decision on it.

These idols are created by the ancient Wax moulding process and are unique in their features.

    17. Can Smart Creations do Custom finishes as per client requirement?

We have a number of metal finishes available in brass, copper, silver, gold and platinum. We stock raw pieces without the final metal plating as well as receive plating orders from client’s for their household items. As per the customer’s requirement we execute the plating work in the shade and texture they need.

    18. Why do we need extra protective layer for the metal plating?

Most of our orders involve gold plating when compared to other metals. Gold is a delicate metal. Even before we do the gold plating we do a Nickel alloy plating on the surface to make it non- porous. This prevents the migration of the base metal into gold, thereby maintaining its integrity. Post the deposition of Gold over this layer, an electrophoretic hard lacquer coating is done to protect it from environmental damage and damage while in transit and handling. As the temple projects involve most of the structures to be in direct exposure to the environment, this lacquering is required for keeping them safe from the UV rays of the sunlight and other particulate matter in the air. This lacquer also prevents scratches and denting to some extent.
